How do most people deal with vertebral subluxations?
First, they try to ignore them. When they don't, they go to the medicine cabinet to stop their brain from feeling the symptom. Later, back surgery may be threatened. Sadly, it's not until this later stage that they consult our Jacksonville Beach chiropractic office. Yet, even with the delay, most are delighted by the results produced by today's chiropractic care. Contact us and let's get started.
What happens if you stop chiropractic care when you feel better?
Many Jacksonville Beach folks recognize that this predisposes you to a relapse. Chiropractors know that muscles and ligaments supporting the spine don't fully heal until after symptoms subside.

What is a Subluxation?

Right now you are probably asking yourself "What is a subluxation?".

Simply put, a subluxation is when one or more of your spinal vertebrae move out of position and applies pressure on, or causes irritation to your spinal nerves. These nerves branch off of the spinal cord and exit out between each of the vertebrae in your spine to control your muscles, lungs, heart, stomach, kidneys, etc. This pressure or irritation on your nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling from your brain to your organs or muscles.

Next, let's address what causes a subluxation. There are three different types of stresses that cause subluxations and they are physical, chemical and emotional stress.

Many of the stresses that you are under in modern society are the physical stresses of work postures, activities such as repetitive lifting or pulling, and trauma such as motor vehicle accidents or slip and falls.

The emotional stresses that you are placed under come in many forms such as occupational, financial, environmental and family lives.

Chemical stresses to your body such as pollution, smoking and diet can result in the body being more susceptible to sickness. Your lifestyle, which can be inherently stressful, can result in subluxations leading you into a position to be less able to cope with future stresses.

This is what can lead to a decline in your health on a progressive level. As the subluxation can alter the function of the nervous system, it can impair the ability of the body to function at its best and adapt to the surrounding environment. This may result in the body sending signals in the form of pain. In regards to the spine, common symptoms of this are back and leg pain, neck and shoulder pain, and headaches. By removing the subluxation, or interference, in the nervous system Chiropractic treatment can be very successful in alleviating these symptoms. However, please keep in mind that subluxations can exist in the body and may not always be expressed as pain!
